Vehicles will have to lower speed limit at Yamuna Expressway from Dec 15

Noida: According to the information received from Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, a new speed limit has been fixed for commuters from Dec 15, 2022, on the Yamuna Expressway.

Under this new speed limit, the maximum speed of light vehicles has been fixed at 80 kilometres per hour and heavy vehicles at a speed of 60 kilometres per hour. This decision has been taken to prevent accidents given the increasing cold and fog in Delhi NCR. This rule will be applied from December 15 to February 15, 2023.

At present, the speed of light vehicles is 100 km per hour and the speed of heavy vehicles is 80 km per hour. As gathered, challans of vehicles will be deducted and action will be taken against vehicle owners and drivers if they do not adhere to the new speed limit from December 15 to February 15, 2023.

Several accidents are reported on this expressway every month due to the high speed of vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway. These accidents increase further during cold and fog. CitySpidey reached out to a few residents from Noida and Greater Noida to gather their views.

Brajesh Sharma, Founder of 7X Welfare, a road safety initiative in Noida says, "This is certainly a good step proactively taken by the concerned authority to avoid any unwanted accidents during Winters. But to make it more meaningful, more advertisements on social media, Twitter and toll posts by the PA system should be done. Otherwise, it is only a formality. They also need to analyze each week's report of which vehicles crossed the speed limit and why."

Rahul Garg of Sector 1 of Greater Noida said that this decision of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority is a welcome move. The number of road accidents on the expressway suddenly increases during the winter. Due to low visibility due to fog, there is a high possibility of collision of vehicles.
