Three boys, on a bike, threw acid on a 17-year-old girl near Dwarka Mod on December 14, 2022, around 7:30 am. The incident was caught on CCTV and the case was reported to Mohan Garden Police Station. A day after the attack, 3 youths have been arrested by the Police. According to Police, three people, prime accused Sachin Arora and his two friends Harshit Aggarwal (19) and Virender Singh have been arrested.

According to the police, the investigation revealed that the accused Sachin Arora and the victim were friends till September. After they broke up, the accused decided to throw acid on the girl. The accused lives in the neighbourhood of the girl. Police said that the accused conspired with his friends and executed the incident on Wednesday. 

Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Sagar Preet Hooda during a press conference said that the acid was procured through an e-commerce portal and payment was made by Arora through an e-portal.

The girl has suffered 7 per cent facial burns and her eyes have been affected. Currently, the girl is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung hospital's burn ICU in Delhi. She is stable at the moment.

It is noteworthy that 11 cases of acid attacks were reported in Delhi in 2018 and 10 in 2019. In 2020, these cases were reduced to 2, if we talk about the whole country, 228 cases of acid attacks were reported in 2018, 249 in 2019 and 182 in 2020.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted about this whole matter and said this cannot be tolerated at all. How did the criminals get so much courage? The criminals should get the harshest punishment. The safety of every girl child in Delhi is important to us. Taking to Twitter, Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal demanded justice for the schoolgirl victim and criticized the government for being nameless in banning the open sale of acid in the country.
