New Delhi: The infrastructure of Delhi has seen growth in the past five years as the Delhi Government has enabled major infrastructural projects. The Delhi Government approved 77 major infrastructure development projects worth Rs 19,545.86 crores in the education, health and PWD sectors since 2017, for the overall development of Delhi. On Wednesday, December 28, 2022, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reviewed various such projects along with the senior officials of the Public Works Department and other concerned departments.

The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) approves only major projects and these include many flagship projects of the Delhi Government. It is to be noted that EFC approves only those projects which are above the cost of Rs 100 crores. Apart from these, there are many other small-scale projects in the aforementioned sectors which are being implemented by the government on the ground to provide a better city infrastructure to the people of Delhi.

While reviewing the projects Manish Sisodia said, “After coming into power, it has been a priority of the Delhi Government to ensure the best infrastructure and facilities of education, health and city infrastructure for the people of Delhi. Delhi is a national capital and deserves the best and world-class urban infrastructure. This was neglected by the previous governments but CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal made this his priority.”

"Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi government approved 77 major infrastructure development projects at the cost of Rs 19545.86 crores since 2017, along with hundreds of other small-scale projects. These projects include the construction of 20,000+ classrooms, new sports complexes, hostels for students, various hospitals with state-of-the-art facilities, 6 new and 2 double-decker flyovers, 2 new university campuses, installation of 2lakh+ CCTV cameras, road beautification projects, installation of 500 flags and the Signature Bridge in Wazirabad," added the PWD Minister.

Delhi Government's priority is to make education infrastructure excellent, 26 major infra projects worth Rs 8683.81 crore approved in the past 5 years

In the education sector itself, the Delhi Government approved 26 major projects worth Rs 8683.81 crores, since 2017. The projects include the construction of various new school buildings, 20000+ new classrooms, sports complexes and the installation of CCTV cameras in Delhi government schools. The Delhi Government is also constructing two new campuses of Ambedkar University in Rohini and Dheerpur. For Training and Technical Education (TTE), while keeping the requirements of students in mind, the government has constructed many new academic blocks and hostels in many technical universities. Most of these projects have either been completed or are currently ongoing.

Delhi Government approved 25 major infra projects in the health sector; hospital beds will be increased by 20,000 beds

In the health sector, the Delhi Government approved 25 major projects at the cost of Rs 4,452.72 crores which includes the construction of various new hospitals and Intensive Care Units. These projects will increase the number of hospital beds up to 20,000 in the national capital. These hospitals and ICUs with state-of-the-art facilities will make quality healthcare services more accessible to the people of Delhi. Most of these projects have either been completed or are currently ongoing.

Road infrastructure has been given a boost with 26 projects worth Rs 6,409.33 crores, construction of 6 new flyovers and 2 double-decker flyovers also approved

In PWD, the Delhi Government has approved 26 major projects at the cost of Rs 6,409.33 crores which include streetscaping projects in the pilot phase, construction of double-decker flyovers between Bhajanpura-Yamuna vihar and Azadpur-Rani Jhansi Road, flyovers at Shastri Park, Asharam to DND flyway, ANVT to Apsara Border, at Nagari and Gagan Cinema Junction and construction of flyover and elevated corridor at Loni Chowk. Apart from these, there are various corridor development projects including the Ashram Chowk underpass and many other underpasses across the city, various bridges, and subways, the installation of nearly 2 lakhs CCTV cameras across the capital, free Wi-Fi for the residents of Delhi, and installation of 500 tricolours across the city.
