Gurgaon: Let’s pawty!

Because people often view their pets as members of the family, throwing birthday parties for them has become an increasingly popular way to celebrate that special bond.

Gurgaon: Let’s pawty!

Pet birthday parties are all the rage now, and Gurgaon is no different. And you thought only humans needed partying!

G-towners are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that that everybody has a tail-waggingly good time. And people are even renting out farmhouses to celebrate the day.

Says Eshita Katyal, founder of OFF the Leash, a Gurgaon-based dog park and café, “Decorations are a big part of such events. Most pet owners, though, avoid balloons, since pets feel uneasy with the loud sound of a balloon bursting. The pets love to enjoy the parties with their humans and other pet owners, who make them feel special during the celebration.”

There are other events too!

“We plan games in which even the owners can be involved. Pets love pool games and obstacle races. As the owner is also running, the pet feels confident,” explained Richa Maheshwari, owner of the Gurgaon-based Café Canine.

And guess the game that’s gaining huge popularity? Musical chairs!

Yes.

Says a pet owner, “There’s no birthday party without musical chairs, is there? Why should my pet’s birthday be any different? We run with our pets, so it’s loads of chaos and loads of fun!”

Once the fun is taken care of, preparation of the birthday cake takes priority.

Pet birthday cakes are different — they don’t have sugar in them. Ingredients such as egg, meat or pork are used, but without salt. Owners often feed their pets at these parties, cementing the bond even further.

There are other things to be sampled as well, such as biscuits, biryani and other staples made with egg and bread.

Rashee Kuchroo, a trained nutritionist and owner of Doggie Dabbas, a customised tiffin system for dogs, says, “The owners want a nutritious and delicious menu for parties. They are particular about what their pets eat.”

You can also hire a professional photographer to capture the special moments of the day.

So let the pawty begin!
