The suspension, starting tomorrow, will impact the Vasundhara Zone, Indirapuram and Noida.
Ganga jal supply to the Vasundhara zone, Indirapuram and Noida will be suspended for about 22 days starting tomorrow. The supply will be stopped by Jal Nigam, owing to annual maintenance of the Ganga canal by the irrigation department.
The canal will undergo cleaning of silt and also repairs. Officials of the irrigation department said the canal will remain closed till Chhat puja.
Speaking to City Spidey, officials of Jal Nigam said if the irrigation department releases water in the canal on October 20, it will reach the Ganga jal plant till late night and supply will resume the next day.
Jal Nigam supplies water to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, the Ghaziabad Development Authority and the Noida Authority. Neelam [she doesn't use her last name], project manager of Jal Nigam, said, “Areas under them will primarily remain affected due to the suspension.”
She also maintained that there’s no back-up supply for now, and consumers will have to make alternative arrangements on their own.
However, managements of high-rises in Indirapuram maintained that the suspended supply will make a difference to the daily requirements by just 10 to 15 per cent. “Most of our water is extracted via borewells and Ganga jal supply meets only a small portion of our daily requirements. The suspension, of course, will lead to a slight increase in the daily groundwater extraction,” explained Mohit Dwivedi, president of Krishna Apra Garden.
