SDKS works towards a greener Dwarka The neem tree is unparalleled in its medicinal value

Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS), a social organisation, planted 35 neem saplings in Sector 23, Dwarka, along Road Number 226.

This eco-friendly drive was supported by the horticulture department of DDA.

SS Mann, vice-president of SDKS and a resident of Sadbhavna Apartments, Sector 22, said, “We have been carrying out such drives for a while now and have planted about 100 saplings of various plants across the sub-city. This time we chose neem because of its medicinal value." He added that their responsibility did not end with planting saplings alone — they also took care of the plants.

PB Mishra, general secretary of SDKS and a resident of Chitrakoot Society in Sector 22, said, “We have arranged for a tanker that will help water all the saplings."

Members of SDKS, along with residents of nearby societies, participated in the drive. The next tree-planting drive is being planned next week, which will see about 30 Ficus benjamina saplings, commonly called the weeping fig, planted around Janki Chowk in Sector 23, Dwarka.

SDKS aims to plant 1,000 saplings by the end of this year's monsoon, with a target of more than 200 in April alone.

"We have started an annual tree-planting programme," Mann told City Spidey. "We have carried out most of the planting along the Master Plan Road Number 226 this month. Residents from societies such as Sadbhavna, Chitrakoot, Delhi Apartments, Janki Apartments and Dream Apartments have taken active interest in the drives, helping us plant more than 50 Ficus benjamina saplings on the service road in Sector 22.”

Hats off to SDKS. That's one step closer to the green environement we are all in dire need of.
