Following the case of alleged food poisoning of students studying in Step By Step school in Noida, District Administration of Gautam Budh Nagar has ordered inspection of school canteens along with testing samples of food served there.

Over 25 students of Step by Step school in Sector 132 had fallen victim to food poisoning after having lunch in the school on April 6. The students had fallen sick soon as they ate the food and complained of severe stomach ache and vomited. It is also alleged that immediately after the incident, the school’s administration had prevented officials from inspecting the premises and held them at the gate for hours before letting them in.

The district administration had then lodged an FIR under sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) against the school management.

Sanjay Sharma, Designated Officer of Food and Drug Administration, said that inspection of canteens in all small and large institutions of the district has been initiated. “There are around 30 big schools in the city while there are several other technical colleges and smaller schools. Inspection of these premises has been ordered. The inspection will be carried out by the five food safety officers currently posted in the district,” Sharma said.

“We have collected samples from the canteen of Sapphire International School located in Sector 70 and sent it to our laboratory in Lucknow for testing. Action will be initiated as per rules on receipt of the test report,” Sharma added.
