All three nominated mayors will take charge next week. The list of names was finalised by BJP’s Delhi-unit chief Manoj Tiwari.
All the three BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday announced the names of candidates for the post of mayors, deputy mayors and other office bearers for the next one year.
Vipin Vihari, councillor of Patparganj municipal ward, has been nominated for the post of Mayor for East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).
Narendra Chawla and Adesh Kumar were nominated for mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) respectively.
All three nominated mayors will take charge next week. The list of names was finalised by BJP’s Delhi-unit chief Manoj Tiwari.
The incumbent mayors of the three corporations are Preeti Agarwal (NDMC), Kamaljeet Sehrawat (SDMC) and Neema Bhagat (EDMC).
As the tenure of mayors in MCD is fixed for one year, therefore, there are five different mayors who serve in party’s five-year tenure. The mayors are selected on a rotation basis - first year for women, second year for open category, third for reserved category and remaining two years also reserved for open category.
As per the information, the polls in SDMC will be held on April 26, while in NDMC and EDMC, it will be held on April 27.
For SDMC, Satyapal Malik would be deputy mayor candidate, while standing committee chairman would be Sikha Rai. On the other hand, outgoing mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat would be the leader of the house.
In North MCD, Rajesh Lawadia would be standing committee chairman while Tilak Rak Kataria would be the leader of the house.
Similarly, in EDMC, Kiran Vaidh would be the deputy mayor, Satya Pal Singh would be standing committee chairman and Sandeep Kapoor would be Leader of House.
Vipin Vihari, Councillor of Patparganj municipal ward, talking to City Spidey said, “It's my second tenure as councillor from Patparganj ward only because residents have supported me for my work. It would be too early to comment at present but I would try my best to do better for the residents of East Delhi.”
