Dwarka: Commuters face difficulty with festive hoardings, banners at circles

People are facing a lot of problems with the big festive hoardings and banners placed at many circles in Dwarka. The commuters are complaining that they are blinded and find it difficult to anticipate traffic from other sides.

These hoardings and banners are also violating the law of anti defacement of Municipal Corporation. The roundabout at Sector 10/11 in Metro corridor has been completely covered with the hoardings and banners of Ramleela and Dussehra festival being organised by different groups.

RK Singh, a resident of Sector 10, said, “According to traffic rules, there must be a clear visibility of traffic movement from all the sides. But, it is being violated in Dwarka. The placing of banners and hoardings at roundabouts are very dangerous. It is surprising that neither civic bodies nor traffic police are looking into it.”

Banners, posters and hoardings can be seen at the prominent chowks like Ashirvad Chowk, KM Chowk, Sector 10/11 Chowk, sectors 10/11/5/6 Chowk. People are writing on the subject to Municipal Corporation but they are not acting on it.

The hoardings and banners can also be spotted at the chowks where South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has carried out beautification by spending lakhs of rupees. Sunita Tiwari, a resident of Sector 12 said, “This is a sheer negligence by the SDMC. It is surprising that they are not stopping it.”

One of the SDMC officials said on the condition of anonymity, “We do remove such things when we get any complaint. But, the hoardings and banners are placed by people who are politically active. So, it is difficult for us to take action.”

Traffic Inspector of the area, Rajender Singh said, “We have taken the matter to local police. We are also voluntarily removing these hoardings and banners. We will continue to do so in the future.”
