According to Col (Ret) Shashi Vaid, on the intervening night of July 6 and 7, criminals broke into nine houses in Sector 29 and burgled valuables from these houses.

In a shocking serial thefts, unidentified men broke into nine houses mostly of retired Army officers at Arun Vihar area in Noida. They took away valuables from these houses when the owners of the houses were out of station for summer vacation.

According to Col (Ret) Shashi Vaid, on the intervening night of July 6 and 7, criminals broke into nine houses in Sector 29 and burgled valuables from these houses.

He said that the thefts seem to be planned as only those houses were burgled where owners went on vacation. “They are yet to come back to their homes,” he informed. 

He said that these houses are opposite Bhardwaj Hospital, a private hospital in Sector 29. He further informed that the thieves made an attempt to burgle these houses earlier on July 2. But they failed as on-duty guards were present in the locality. The thieves attacked the on-duty guards when they resisted during the attempt to steal valuables from these houses.    

Vaid said that burglary and chain snatching have now become a regular affair especially for residents of Arun Vihar. 

He said that there is hardly police presence or PCR van patrolling in the sector. “This is the reason that criminals committing crimes,” he blamed. 

He added that residents have been left fending for themselves with no safety from the local police. 

Nine houses which were burgled belonged to General (Rtd) Rawat, Krishna Dahiya, R D Sharda, Dimpal Sundarlal, Rahul Sahani, Col (Ret) Jaswant Singh, Col (Ret) Prateek Bhargawa, Col (Ret) G S Hora, and Col (Ret) A K Malik. They have been informed about the incident.

According to sources with the police, they collected the footage from CCTV cameras in the areas and it is being scanned for identifying the criminals who committed the thefts. Police said that a complaint is yet to be received from residents of the sector.
