NGT orders clearance of unauthorised occupancies from Yamuna flood plains

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has passed an order to clear Yamuna flood plains from encroachments or unthorised occupancies.

It has categorically said that fines will be levied on the organisations who fail to remove the unauthorised occupancies. These directions were issued to Delhi Development Authority, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Corporations, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Police and various other agencies.

In compliance with the directions of the NGT, a demolition programme was held on Friday in flood plains near DND flyover/Mayur Vihar opposite to Samachar Appartments where large number of slums have been removed.  

The unauthorised occupants were aware of the orders of NGT regarding clearing of flood plains but they failed to move away from the flood plains.  

Hence, demolition was carried out in compliance with the NGT orders.  The orders are being monitored by the Monitoring Committee constituted by NGT.
