Noida: Dysfunctional lift deprives senior citizens of park facility

Many senior citizens of Unihomes living in the flats in the uppermost portion of the high rise in Sector 117, Noida have, of late, almost stopped descending on the ground to chill out in the serene atmosphere of the park below as they used to do.

The reason is that the only lift in residential tower C-1 is not functional.

Leave alone the elderly residents, even youngsters find it hard to scale the peak in the absence of a functional lift. They experience breathing problem while walking up the stairs.

The residents complained that the lift is in this defunct state for the past several days which forced many of the residents, including the senior citizens, to stay indoors. They blame laxity of the developer for the sorry state of the lift.

“If he cannot even ensure maintenance of the only lift installed in the tower, what else can he do,” they ask.

Due to lack of maintenance, the lone lift available to them turns defunct frequently causing enormous inconvenience to all, especially those living in the upper flats.

Out of the 400 families residing in the society, 30 live in the residential tower of C-1. The residents concede that whenever they take the issue of defunct lift to the developer, he gets it repaired temporary. As a result, the lift gives in functioning forcing the residents to use staircase to go down and coming up from the ground floor.

P N Sharma, a resident of the society, said, “The lift stops working after every second day. We are hesitant to use the lift for fear of getting trapped in it when it stops midway.”

They had lodged a complaint about this with Noida Industrial Development Authority and demanded a permanent solution to the problem. But the authority officials have not initiated any action so far.
