Following instructions of district magistrate, Shailendra Mishra, City Magistrate, Noida on Monday issued an advisory asking residents not to use firecrackers post Diwali. It was done in compliance to Supreme Court’s order for control of air and noise pollution during festival season.
Mishra said that air quality has worsened despite use of green firecrackers for the first time in the city. He said that keeping the current air quality in mind, residents are advised not to use fire crackers post Diwali as it might affect people badly.
“The administration would take strict action against violators in compliance to SC order,” Mishra added.
People resorted to bursting crackers early evening and late night on Diwali despite of prohibition on this. But use of firecrackers come down as compared to past previous years.
Residents are of the view that use of firecrackers will further go down in coming year as people will be more educated about the adverse consequences of firecrackers.
A resident said that they could not expect cent percent compliance in one go. “It would take time and people would also understand their responsibility regarding the environment in due course of time,” he said.
Anjali Sachdeva, a resident agreed that it would take time for strict compliance of the advisory.
“Government has been diligently enforcing every year. But people have been ignorant about the rules. Everyone should cooperate as pollution affects everyone badly,” she said.
