District police of Gautam Budh Nagar claimed to have arrested two persons for allegedly posting malicious content on social media over the temple-mosque row even as the Supreme Court settled the decades long dispute over Ayodhya site on Sunday.
According to the police, one of the two accused was arrested from Shahpur in Noida, while the other was from Dankaur, Greater Noida.
“In the first case, the accused had shared a post on Facebook which could have caused communal discord. Hence, he was arrested and a case filed against him,” a police officer revealed.
“In the second case, the accused was held for a post he shared on Facebook on Sunday morning. His post could have triggered religious disharmony,” he added.
The accused in the latter case is said to have shared such posts twice in October as well.
The police said the accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code's (IPC) sections 295A(deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The duo has also been booked under the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the mobile phones used by them for uploading the controversial posts have been seized.
