Greater Noida: The air quality in Greater Noida improved drastically on Friday after heavy rains along with thunderstorm gave respite to people from the pollution. The air quality shifted to 'unhealthy' category from the 'severe' category.

The city witnessed a dip in pollution level. The air quality index (AQI) at 2 pm on Friday was 172 at Knowledge Park against 416 on Thursday.

Interestingly, despite the improvement in air pollution due to rainfall, a major rise in pollution level was seen in the last few days after the ban on construction activities was lifted by the Supreme Court. No respite has been seen from open garbage and stubble burning though its impact has been lower because of easterly winds accompanied by rain.

Sona Singh, a resident of Greater Noida West, said that though the rain has brought respite from choking pollution, the civic situation of the city has worsened.
