Gurugram: Amid cheers, the state-level Bal Mahotsav (Children’s Festival) commenced on Thursday at Kingdom of Dreams in Sector 29, Gurugram. The five-day long cultural extravaganza is organised by the Haryana State Child Welfare Council on the theme ‘Dream Come True’.

At the inauguration of the festival, children from different districts of the state presented cultural programmes adding to the vibrancy to the atmosphere. With folk songs from different states like Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Punjabi coupled with dances, the young artistes enthralled the audience.

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Om Prakash Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion. He was all praise for the raw talent of the schoolchildren, their energy and exuberance. 

In his address, he said that social welfare and national welfare are not possible without the welfare of children. He further said that it was only through such programmes that the hidden talent of children emerges. 

He lauded the efforts of the Haryana State Child Welfare Council to provide the children a world-class platform. He exhorted the children to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their talent.

On the occasion, Honorary General Secretary, Haryana State Council for Child Welfare Krishna Dhull, said that this was the second time that a state-level children’s festival is being celebrated on such a large scale. “We have made an attempt to make this festival a success with all the necessary arrangements for the entertainment of children.” 

On the first day of the celebration, around 532 students from different parts of the state have participated in various competitions, including solo dance, group dance, solo songs, patriotic group song, poster making, sketching on the spot, Thali decorations, Thali Pujan and rangoli competitions.

An exhibition of hand-made items by children and women was also held at stalls of Palwal, Fatehabad, Mewat and other districts.

Earlier in the day, Divisional Commissioner Ashok Sangwan, Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri, Council Secretary General Krishna Dhull, Divisional Child Welfare Officer Amarnath Narwal, District Child Welfare Officer Narendra Malik visited the stalls and appreciated the art and creativity of children.

Rakesh Daulatabad, MLA of Badshahpur, also attended the festival. He said that talent among children is in abundance. The enthusiasm with which the children are participating in the event is quite commendable.
