Huge fire engulfs flat turning all household items into ashes at Ecovillage II

Greater Noida: A huge fire engulfed a flat at Ecovillage II destroying all the household items on Friday at Greater Noida. The owner of the flat got to know about the incident only after returning back from office at 9 pm.

He was immediately taken aback to see the smoke coming out from the flat. Hurriedly, he opened the door to know that all his belongings had turned into ashes.

In his written complaint to the local area police, Dipankar Sharma has alleged that the fire fighting system did not work in time to control the fire.

“If fire fighting system had worked, the fire would have been doused at initial stage and the incident could have been averted. If it worked in time, I would not have lost my valuables. The incident prompts towards the shabby maintenance at the society. I thank God that my family was out of city. It could have been disastrous,” he said.

Sharma told City Spidey that he left for his office around 11.30 am on Saturday and when he returned to his flat 1405 located in 14th floor of Tower C/15 around 9 pm, the entire flat was full of smoke.

Sharma also claimed that the management was doing some maintenance work in the society during the day and the power supply of the tower was cut for few hours. “It might have happened that when power supply was resumed, extra voltage could have caused short circuit.” said, a resident of the society.

Angered over the fire incident, the residents have been asking for immediate corrective measures at the society. They said that they are vulnerable to such kind of incidents and blamed the maintenance authority for callousness.

However, as per the owner of the flat, the management has assured to cover the loss. “Initially, the representatives of the management were reluctant to accept that the incident happened due to their callousness. When more residents started blaming them, they accepted to cover the loss. However, I am yet to get the assurance in writing,” he said.

CitySpidey tried to contact the management of the society but our calls went unanswered.

Notably, the Ecovillage II society has been witnessing tussle between the residents and the maintenance authority. The residents have been complaining about the issues with the maintenance.

Earlier, water supply was cut for more than two days causing huge inconvenience to residents living in the high rise towers. It followed with ugly protests.
