Greater Noida: The Greater Noida Authority is all set to celebrate its 29th foundation day with a four-day long carnival. The celebration will start from January 25 and end on January 28. 

Various activities such as mini-marathon, music show, youth festival, cultural festivals etc. will be organised on the occasion. 

The authority held a meeting on Saturday for the preparation to make the event successful. Residents, school children and several institutions in the city will participate in the foundation day celebrations. 

In the meeting, while taking stock of the preparation with officials of different departments, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Narendra Bhushan said, "We have invited institutions including the Gautam Buddha University, Shiv Nadar University, Galgotias University and various engineering colleges and schools to organise youth festivals on the foundation day."

The Greater Noida Authority was established on January 28, 1991. Ever since it has been celebrating its foundation day every year. This year, officials said the authority had decided to involve people associated with various sectors, residents welfare associations (RWAs), schools, colleges among others.

Before a carnival, a mini-marathon of 10 km will be organised for residents of the city on January 19.  The authority has also decided to organise a mini-marathon of 4 km for senior citizens. 

As per an official communique, people willing to participate in the mini-marathon can register themselves on its website – www.thegnoidamarathon.com. On January 25 and 26, a programme of Hackathon will be organised with the theme 'Smart City'.

Other cultural programmes such as cultural night, sufiyana music, kavi sammelan (poetry reading) and many more will be organised by different colleges. A handicraft fare and food festival will also be organised.

The authority has also decided to showcase its initiative of making the city free of garbage and educating people about solid waste management (SWM) rules.

On Republic Day (January 26), a 'Republic March' involving children of all the government and private schools, parents and teachers will be carried out at Greater Noida stadium. The authority has also decided to organise a mega sports festival for school children and college students from Greater Noida.
