Greater Noida: The residents of highrises in Greater Noida West on Sunday carried out a protest against the lapses in security of the people residing in the area. The protest was fuelled after Gaurav Chandel's brutal murder on January 7. They demanded justice for Chandel and arrest of his murderer.

A video was circulated in WhatsApp groups featuring Gaurav Chandel’s son Aditya Chandel who was seen appealing to the residents to come out in his support for protest. However, video featuring Aditya landed into controversy and he did not participate in protest.

A member of deceased's family talking to CitySpidey said, “We did not participate in protest because we were unwell.”

Noida Extension Flat Owners and Welfare Association (NEFOWA), an organisation in Greater Noida West carried out the protest from Ek Moorti to Gaur Stadium. Abhishek Kumar, head of NEFOWA, was seen in a video addressing the gathering of people requesting them not to allow unknown people to join the protest.

Later, talking to CitySpidey, Kumar said, “NEFOWA had appealed to the residents to take part in protest march. We carried out a peaceful protest and raised our voice. We noticed that some people were holding anti-CAA banners and wanted to merge with our group (residents) which was not allowed.”

Dipankar Kumar, a resident of Panchsheel Greens, said, “We have time and again sought round the clock patrolling in the area. Whenever any incident happens, the police start patrolling but it hardly continues for a month.”

The residents, while protesting said that police should ensure that patrolling would made a regular process to ensure the security of residents as the area has witnessed highest crime rate in the entire National Capital Region.
