NOFAA conducts awareness event on SWM rules at Alok Vihar

Noida: In an effort to sensitise residents about solid waste management (SWM) rules 2016, the Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association (NOFAA), on Sunday, organised an awareness event at Alok Vihar-1, a high rise in Sector 50.

This was the 100th awareness event that the federation conducts at different high rises in the city for maximum participation of the residents and adherence to the SWM rules.

Cleanliness is gradually becoming a trend among the residents. On every Sunday, they take time off for cleaning their residential areas. Officials too join them for the same.

Rajiva Singh, President of NOFAA, said, ''As part of an initiative, Hamey Apaney Noida Ko Swachh Banana Hai (We want to make our Noida clean), by the federation, we have been conducting awareness event at high rises without any charge.''

''Participants are made aware of the rules and regulations, benefit of maintaining cleanliness, and adverse impact of dumping waste at landfill sites etc.,'' he added.

He further said that the residents were made aware of segregation of waste and its benefit and were informed about the mechanism that is providing door to door waste collection services to them.

Besides, it also held discussion on rainwater harvesting which is operational in the society and distributed waste management kits among residents on behalf of Noida Industrial Development Authority (NIDA), the enforcement agency of SWM rules in the city.

The agency also distributed waste segregation kits to the residents of Sector 51 and 56 during the event held at different venues. Sanjeev Kumar, general secretary of RWA, Sector 51, said about 40 residents of his sector were benefited from the kits distribution event. They were handed over green coloured buckets for keeping kitchen and dry waste segregated.

In addition to distribution of kits, the agency convened cleanliness drive in sectors 51, 56, 57, 87 and 88. Officials along with the residents picked waste while the drive was in progress. They (officials) also noted civic issues from each sector and assured quick action in this regard.
