Union Budget 2020: Rs 69,000 crore allocated to health sector

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocated Rs. 6,400 crore to PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in the Union Budget 2020. The overall allocation for the health sector for the financial year is Rs 69,000 crore.

More than 20,000 hospitals are already empanelled under the PMJAY.

Viability Gap Funding window is proposed for setting up hospitals under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Aspirational districts with no Ayushman empanelled hospitals will be covered in the first phase.

Diseases will be targeted with an appropriately designed preventive regime using Machine Learning and AI.

Jan Aushadhi Kendra Scheme will offer 2,000 medicine and 300 surgical equipment in all districts by 2024.  'TB Harega, Desh Jeetega', a campaign, is launched with Rs 3.60 lakh crore allocation and a commitment to end tuberculosis by 2025 while Jal Jeevan Mission is allocated Rs. 11,500 crore for the year 2020-21.

Augmentation of local water sources, recharging of existing ones and promoting water harvesting and desalination are all in the budget. Cities with million-plus population will be encouraged to achieve the objective during the current financial year itself.

Rs 12,300-crore allocation is made for Swachh Bharat Mission in 2020-21. Emphasis is laid on liquid and greywater management.  Solid-waste segregation at source and processing is also in focus.
