Amid rise in new cases, third serological survey to begin in Delhi from today

New Delhi: Third serological survey will be conducted in the national capital from Tuesday. It is beginning amid the fear of a second wave in the national capital as cases have risen significantly in the last ten days.

The survey will be conducted in eleven districts of Delhi and is expected to be completed by September 5. The survey will be conducted by covering around 17,000 people.

In the serological survey conducted last month, around 29.1 per cent of the population was found to be exposed to the virus. However, in July, around 23.5 per cent of the population was found to be infected by the virus.

The coronavirus situation was bleak in the national capital when it was at the second position among states in terms of the total cases. But the situation improved afterwards with increased testing, focus on containment zones and ramping up of healthcare facilities.

At present, Delhi has 1.75 lakh cases, of which, 1.56 lakh have recovered. The recovery rate is in excess of 89 per cent. It was above 90 per cent a few days back.

Delhi on Monday reported 1,358 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the cumulative tally to 1,74,748. With 18 fatalities, the death toll reached 4,444 in the last 24 hours.

The significant dip in new cases came after the highest single-day spike in August on the previous day. Delhi had reported 2,024 new cases on Sunday. It was the highest single-day spike in 51 days.
