New Delhi: High security registration plates (HSRPs) and colour-coded fuel stickers have been made mandatory for vehicles from October 1 in Delhi. It has been mandatory for all the vehicles registered before April 2019.
They have been made mandatory for all vehicles registered in NCT of Delhi and action can be taken against vehicle owners for violating the norm under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The penalty for not having an HSRP can range between Rs 5,000-Rs 10,000.
The vehicles owners are required to procure the HSRP and colour-coded stickers from the online portal bookmyhsrp.com. They can book a slot by choosing the nearest centre from a list of 236 centres in Delhi. At present, there are around 400 centres across the NCR.
To book a slot, a vehicle owner will be required to pick the vehicle type first and then enter the vehicle brand. Then, the nearest dealer can be picked according to convenience. The vehicle owners will be required to enter vehicle registration number, date of registration, chassis number, engine number, email ID and mobile number, before proceeding to make payment.
As per the Rosmerta Safety Systems Private Limited, the car owners will have to make payment of Rs 600 to Rs 1,100 depending on the make and class of vehicles. On the other hand, charges for two-wheelers is between Rs 300 to Rs 400. The vehicles, which are already having HSRP, will be required to pay Rs 100 for the stickers.
HSRPs are chrome-based hologram plates manufactured through a process of hot-stamping and laser-branding a unique identification number. The HSRPs cannot be duplicated. They are also linked to the central vehicular database of the Union government. The HSRPs are expected to curb thefts, illegal sales and also help in criminal probes.
Colour-coded sticker is applied for fuel type. A light blue colour sticker is applicable for petrol and CNG vehicles, whereas orange colour sticker is applicable for diesel vehicles.
