New Delhi: High numbers of coronavirus deaths have become a cause of worry in Delhi. Sunday was the second straight day when more than 40 deaths were recorded. A total of 42 people died due to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Now, the death toll has reached 5,235 in the national capital.

On Saturday, 46 people had died, which was the highest single-day spike in coronavirus deaths since July 16.

However, the new cases continued to remain much below the 4,000 mark on Sunday. 3,292 fresh cases of coronavirus were reported in Delhi, taking the cumulative tally to 2,71,114. Delhi recorded 3,372 fresh cases on Saturday, 3,827 on Friday, 3,834 on Thursday, 3,714 on Wednesday and 3,816 on Tuesday.

51,416 tests were conducted, of which 11,414 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 40,002 were rapid antigen tests. 57,688 tests were conducted on Friday, 59,134 tests were conducted on Thursday, 59,183 on Wednesday, 59,580 on Tuesday, 59,013 on Monday. The average test per day is more than 50,000 in the last ten days. 

On the other hand, Delhi continued to see a higher number of recoveries on Sunday. 3,739 patients recovered from deadly disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery figure to 2,36,651. The number of daily recoveries has significantly gone up in the last few days.

Recoveries outnumbered the new cases again on Sunday. It affected the active cases figure positively. Active cases have now gone below 30,000 mark. Active cases declined by 489 in the national capital in the last 24 hours. Delhi has now 29,228 active cases.

The national capital currently has 2,380 containment zones. A total of 29,24,754 tests have been conducted so far. A total of 15,830 beds are available for COVID-19 in different hospitals in the city. Of these, 6,758 have been occupied, while 9,072 are lying vacant.
