Noida: As Delhi government has become stricter with substantial increase in fines for people defaulting the guidelines by not wearing masks during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the residents of Noida want similar action in the city.

They complained that though the positive cases are on rise in the bordering city of Delhi but people are not adhering to the Covid-19 preventive measures. They are being seen roaming freely even without wearing masks.

The Delhi government has increased the amount of fine to Rs 2,000 if a citizen is seen roaming outside home without wearing a mask to prevent the spread of virus. It has been made effective in the national capital.

In a letter written to the district administration and commissioner of police, Gautam Budh Nagar, confederation of NCR residents welfare association expressed serious concerns over preventive measures not being followed in Noida.

It said, “People were allowed to come out of their homes for work and shopping during the festival season. But it seems that they are not serious about their well-being. They are coming out of homes without wearing masks, which can work as a bridge for the spread of coronavirus.”

Ashok Hak, the city convener of the confederation said that both police and district administration should initiate actions to ensure that residents follow the basic preventive measures. He said, “If adherence to basic preventive measures is ensured, it would help them to maintain the situation under control.”
