New Delhi: The citizens are objecting to the government's move to legalise mining in Aravallis. The people of Delhi-NCR and Gurugram, are planning to storm Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court with mails to appeal the halt of mining in the Aravallis. This is happening from 8 am to 4 pm on Tuesday.

The movement, Aravalli Bachao began in 2019 as a protest against the Haryana government, which proposed the urbanisation of the forest. Aravalli Bachao is a community of people from Gurugram and Delhi-NCR, who actively fight against the reconstruction of the forest.

The Aravalli has been popularly known as the lungs of Delhi and Gurugram, and many believe it would put the forest at the risk of complete destruction.

Neelam Ahluwalia, an Aravalli Bachao campaigner said in her official statement, “Forest, climate action and environment groups across the country are helping to amplify this critical issue and requesting the Supreme Court not to give permission for mining in the eco-sensitive Aravallis. We hope the Supreme Court will save NCR's critical water recharge zone, climate regulator, wildlife habitat and barrier against desertification.”

However, the Haryana govt is appealing to the court to restart mining in the Aravallis around Gurugram and Faridabad. This made the Aravalli Bachao team to start a social media campaign, where they are circulating messages on the online messaging service provider, WhatsApp along with Twitter and Facebook.

"On March 3, a group of adults and high school students had gone to the Haryana Bhavan in Delhi to submit a petition letter to the Haryana Chief Minister stating citizens' objections for restarting mining in the Aravallis. Aravalli Bachao citizens group also organised a nationwide tweetstorm on this issue on March 4 using hashtags #NoMiningInAravallis and #AravalliBachao,” said Anu PD from the Aravalli Bachao Citizens movement.
