Dwarka: Streetlights are very important for commuters and residents. If they are covered, commuters can face a lot of troubles and it can also turn out to be dangerous. A lot of overgrown trees in sub-city are causing a problem for residents.
It is understandable that the streets remain dark due to poor streetlights in Dwarka, but it is not acceptable if the streetlights remain ineffective even after being properly lit, but the same thing is happening in Dwarka.
There are more than two dozen service lanes and roads where the streetlights are hidden in the branches of trees and the whole road is seen dark. Every year, the residents appeal to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for this. But there is no proper effort in the direction of a permanent solution.
Sushil Kumar, President of Dwarka Forum, said, “The work of pruning of trees has been started by the Delhi Development Authority. Earlier, trees have been pruned in some sectors of Dwarka and now there is a problem of many more sectors. If it is being done there, the problem will be resolved soon.”
The situation gets worse, especially after rain. Anti-social elements carry out the crime by using the darkness. Surprisingly, despite having lakhs of trees all over Dwarka, DDA has only one machine for pruning.
In such a situation, even if the pruning of trees starts, it takes time to complete. Corporations, DDA and other departments need to come forward together towards a permanent solution to this problem.
Sudha Sinha, President of the Federation of Dwarka, said, “Most of the service lanes from Sector 23 to roads of Sector 22 face the problem of darkness in Dwarka. In such a situation, a team of night patrol should be formed. Team members should take a stroll of the entire Dwarka every day and inform the concerned department about the problem wherever there is. Only then can a permanent solution to this problem be possible.”
Due to the working of many agencies in Dwarka, people face problems. Apart from the corporation, DDA, there are other agencies including BSES. In such a situation, people keep going from one office to another with their complaints and the problem is not resolved. People suffer problems due to the non-pruning of trees on time.
Ramesh Mumukshu, a resident of Dwarka, said, “In many sectors, due to the lack of pruning of trees, traffic signals get hidden in the clumps of trees. Due to this, there is a possibility of an accident. On many roads, the poles of the street lights are covered due to the lack of tree trimming, due to which the problem of dark spots persists.
AS Chhatwal, General Secretary of Dwarka Forum, said, “Sector 8 SPG road from the post office at Sector 6 to MDH School. Last year, a list was submitted to the DDA in this regard by the Dwarka Forum and work was done on that too. This time also the situation has become like last year. In such a situation, the problems of the people have increased. The office-bearers of Dwarka Forum are ready at all times to help DDA. If there is a need to conduct a survey together, we will definitely support it this time too.”
Fulwar Singh Chahar, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department, DDA said, “The work of pruning of trees has been started by the Delhi Development Authority. Earlier, trees have been pruned in Dwarka A ward and now in B ward where the problem is being faced, it is being done. Soon the problem will be resolved..”
The authority needs to look into such problems immediately.
