Greater Noida to have Chandigarh inspired streets

Greater Noida: The Greater Noida Authority is stepping up its act to improve the green quotient of the area under its jurisdiction. In the process, it has floated tenders worth about Rs 8 crore to develop the green belt around various housing societies.

The ‘City Beautiful’ Chandigarh seems to be one of the major inspirations for GreNo Authoirty. Taking a cue from Chandigarh, where there are roads lined with flowering trees such as Amaltas, Gulmohar, Kachnar, and Kuraisia, the GreNo is planning something similar in the Green Belt of Greater Noida. On the instructions of Greater Noida Authority CEO Narendra Bhushan, a 4.71 lakh square meter green belt in Greno  West with a length of about seven kilometers is going to be planted with these trees. Tenders have also been issued for this. Similarly, 10 meters, 20 meters,  30 meters, 75 meters, and 100-meter green belts will be developed in  Techzone-4, Techzone-7, Sector 16C, Sector 01, 12, and 16 of Greater  Noida.

Apart from this, residents of many housing societies including Gaur Saundaryam, Eros Sampoornam, Himalaya Pride have been demanding a pathway near the green belt, so that they could use it for their walks. The authority now plans to fulfill their demands under this project.

Interestingly the authority also has a plan to name the roads after the kind of trees they are lined with. This will be a much-improved situation from the present one where the roads are unimaginatively named after their widths, such as 130-meter road,  105-meter road, or a 60-meter road.

Till now, different species of plants were being planted in the parks of Greater Noida. The incorporation of plants does not improve the look of those parks. Now the Authority has decided to change this practice by planting the same type of saplings in a particular park. If there are four parks in a sector, then a particular species of plants will be planted in each park, which will also make the identification of the park easier.

Sanwarjeet Singh, 38, a resident of Gaur Sportswood, and a member of  Greno Green Foundation team that focus on beautifying Noida and  Greater Noida’s sector through plantation says, “Last year Greno Green  Foundation team under its annual plantation regime planted more than  200 samplings of Amaltas (Yellow Flower Lane) and Jacaranda( Blue flower Lane) at various sectors of Noida and Greater Noida West. Basic idea was to beautify the sector roads along with the plantation by choosing the plant species which give beautiful flowers along with oxygen. It gives us utter satisfaction when our theme to beautify the sector is now adopted by Greater Noida Authority to beautify Greater Noida Sectors.”

Rajesh Ranjan, Resident of Casa Woodstock, Gaur City 2, Greater Noida  West, says, “As far as the Gaur City 2 area is concerned till now no development in the direction of greening the area has been done by the authority. Gaur City 2  doesn't even have its own parks as Gaur City 1 has. Noida  Extension or Greater Noida west are totally different from Greater Noida in terms of greenery. We want better greenery in our area and some parks too.”
