Spring is in the air as Cherry blossoms bloom in Japan

The Japanese tradition of Hanami is a celebration of nature and noting the transient beauty of life. Hanami stands for the act of going out and watching the cherry blossom trees in full bloom. Something that the Japanese are doing as of now as the month of March comes to a close.

The Hanami tradition revolves around the Sakura (cherry blossom), which is a two-week-long blooming of cherry blossoms all over the country. The Japanese celebrate, together with family and friends, these two weeks of cherry blossoms by organising night-long parties and day picnics under the cherry blossom trees, picturing them, and watching them in awe.

The festival typically takes place by the end of March when cherry blossom blooms. The cherry blossom flower carries a light pink to white shade. The first cherry blossoms come up on the tropical island of Okinawa located at the southern end of the country. The last blooms take place at the cold north end of the country on the Island of Hokkaido.

During this time Japan draws tourists from all over the world but during Covid 19 times this did not happen. India too has its share of cherry blossoms in the state of Himachal and North Eastern states.
