Dwarka sector 8: Dark stretch of road lit up after series of resident complains

Dwarka: The streetlights on the backside of the main road of Dwarka Sector 8 have been repaired after several complaints by the residents. A few weeks back, the lane was completely dark because of dysfunctioning streetlights. In the last month, a couple of accidents were also reported on the blind turn in that lane because of darkness. The road is important for people travelling from Palam and Raj Nagar to Shahabad Mohammad Pur, Gurugram and Dwarka Sector 8.

Karan Kumar (27), a resident of Baghdola village says, “We are happy that this issue is resolved after much anticipation. Now, at least we can safely use this road at night without worrying about any threat of snatching or robbery. Because of darkness, several accidents, snatching and eve-teasing cases were reported from this stretch. All the nearby residents are happy now.”

Suman Sharma (29), a resident of Shahabad Mohammad Pur says, “I use this road daily to go to Palam for my gym and now I don’t have to worry about the darkness and can easily travel in the evening also. Earlier, I needed to wait for one and a half hours for my brother to pick me up. But thank god the lights are working properly now, girls and other citizens can use this road without fear.”

While some people are happy with this solution, some people are still worried about the blind turn.

Mahesh Yadav (35), a resident of Raj Nagar says, “It is very good that the lights are now working properly but what about the blind turn? Light will surely decrease the chances of accidents but not fully. Light will not control the speed of vehicles and can’t show whether another vehicle is coming from the opposite side or not”.

Aakash Kataria (26), a resident of Dwarka sector7 says, “I use this road to go to my office in Gurugram. This is the shortest route for Dwarka people to reach Gurugram and minor accidents on this road are very common. However, sometimes the situation becomes very dangerous because of this blind turn. Lights are now working, it's great but what about this turn?”

He further added, “It is very important to construct a speed breaker before this turn on both the sides so, the people will lower down the speed of their vehicles before the turn. This will help in reducing the chances of accidents because of overspeeding and blind turns. Also, one traffic mirror must be placed here so, commuters can see the vehicles coming from the opposite direction".
