Noida: SWAG team celebrates World Bicycle Day with style and a cycle rally

Noida: The SWAG team ( Super Women's Athletes group) of Greater Noida West organized a 15 km Ride to celebrate World Bicycle Day. Around 30 ladies participated. The event started at 4 AM with a half-hour of Zumba Session for warmup and then a ride from Gaur City mall, Diamond Plaza to Rajesh Pilot Chowk. The participants of the group were also felicitated with certificates and medals. Refreshments were served.

The aim of the SWAG team is to motivate women to look after their health and stay fit through physical activities. Bicycle riding has long been one of the major activities promoted by the group. The Swag group participates in various activities like swimming, badminton, cycling, and Yoga among others.

The Swag group was started by Bhawna Gaur, a housewife, and Co-founder Barnali Mahela, who is a Biology teacher with a vision to bring women into sports. The two ladies started the group during the pandemic when everything was shut down, to get a semblance of fresh air and normalcy when the world seemed grim.

Bhawna Gaur, a resident of Gaur city 2, 11th Avenue, and the founder of the SWAG group says, "When I started cycling, I never imagined or planned to create a group, people approached us and joined it voluntarily.  I am happy that ladies who never cared for themselves are now thinking of becoming fit through the SWAG team. My motive is to approach more women from Greater Noida West and tell them to give their time to themselves. So, khush rahiye, mast rahiye Swasth rahiye and cycle chalate rahiye."

Barnali Mahela, the co-founder of this group and PGT teacher in biology says, "Today's event was great, everyone enjoyed and felt happy. I am satisfied that we can work towards women's health. We work for women's fitness and want every woman to enjoy her life."

Shipra Gupta, a member of SWAG and a teacher says," The event was awesome. The Zumba session at the beginning filled all the ladies with enthusiasm and energy. I would like to tell all women to give time to themselves."
