Avakar Composters- Saving the environment by minimising waste

The World Environment Expo (WEE 2022) held at Pragati Maidan gave a platform to businesses that are working with environment-friendly technology and creating eco-friendly products. This year, many innovative businesses working with eco-friendly technologies and products became a part of this event.

Avakar Composters has created a homemade compost bin that can simplify composting for all. The composters contain three pots and 1 lid made from terracotta. Along with that, the company provides CompX Mix (a mix of cocopeat, microbial powder, and neem powder) which helps in composting, a rack for mixing, a bottom plate, and a rain cover.

We met Ajay Agarwal, Founder of Avakar Composters. He had started this business in 2019. He has arrived at WEE to gain knowledge from other ventures and talk about their product. He says, "Any change begins at home. Composting at home can make a great positive change in the environment. By just composting, an average person can reduce their carbon footprint by 30-40%."

While explaining the method, Ajay says, "the process for composting is very simple you just need to add your daily kitchen waste (Organic) to the top pot and sprinkle a fist full of CompX Mix on top of it. Mix the contents with the rack once a week. Once the pot gets filled up exchange it with the empty pot. Now fill this pot and then the third. By the time the third gets filled the compost will be ready in the first. Harvest that compost and use it to nurture your plants."

Ajay learned about composting in his childhood days from his family members. He took up waste management as his college project which made him aware of the issues of solid waste management, especially in big cities. Ajay says, "My vision is to reverse the effect of global warming and climate change. This could only happen when we all come together and start reducing our carbon footprint. We must all realize that the waste created by us is our responsibility."
