World Youth Skills Day 2022- Schemes available for youth in India

Any nation's youth is its core, and they play a crucial role in determining the nation's development. As a result, providing skills development to youth becomes relevant. After the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared World Youth Skills Day in 2014, it is now observed every year on July 15. According to UNESCO, the day is celebrated to recognise the "strategic importance of providing young people with skills for employment, dignified labour, and entrepreneurship."

The Indian government has taken several steps to ensure that young people have the skills they need through development programmes, apprenticeship programmes, and other initiatives. This World Youth Skills Day 2022, we present a list of some government schemes available for youth-

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship's (MSDE) main programme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), is carried out through National Skill Development Corporation. This skill certification program is aimed at providing a platform for youth to enrol in training that is relevant to their industry. Thus, improving their chance of finding employment. This scheme was established in 2015 to promote skill development among the country's youth.

Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS)
Through a network of Industrial Training Institutes, this programme offers training courses to young people (ITI). It aims to ensure the domestic sector has access to competent workers in various trades and to increase youth
employment.

Skill Strength for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE)
The World Bank assisted in the launch of the government programme STRIVE. It aims to implement institutional reforms and enhance the value and marketability of skill development training programmes in long-term vocational training. It was founded to support organisations and make it possible for them to provide high-quality skill-development training.

Advanced Vocational Training Scheme (AVTS)
The AVTS has existed since 1977 to improve and modernise the abilities of service industry workers. The programme was introduced in 1977 at the then-6 Advanced Training Institutes (ATIs) under DGE&T and the 16 ITIs of the 15 State Governments (currently Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship) in conjunction with UNDP/ILO. Under the programme, training in specific skill areas is provided through brief, modular courses that last one to six weeks. There are additional courses available that are specifically designed to meet the needs of industrial facilities.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKK)
The Skill India Mission, run by the Indian Government, launched this programme. It aims to develop cutting-edge and aspirational model training centres in every region of the nation. The centres, known as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras, provide people with employability-focused courses that are industry-driven.
