Noida: Heavy rains in Noida causes water logging, residents complain

Noida: After a heavy bout of rain in Noida on July 20, 2022, commuters getting through the waterlogged roads became a common sight on the roads of Noida. The residents and commuters say that waterlogging happens almost every time it rains and blame it on the ill maintenance of the stormwater drainage system.

Sanjeev Kumar, RWA General Secretary, Sector 51 says, "We have often complained to the authority about the issue but nothing has been done about it. Before the  monsoon, the Noida Authority was supposed to take care of cleaning the city's minor and large drains." He further adds that because of the authority's negligence, the commuters and residents of Noida have to suffer.

The RWA of Sector 51 tells us that they have been requesting the Health Department and the Authority to get the drains of the sector cleaned. However, to date, 60 percent of the drains of the area are blocked, eventually leading to waterlogging in monsoon.

Sanjeev Kumar adds that they want the CEO of the Noida Authority, Ritu Maheshwari to meet the RWA and take a look at the situation herself.

Residents of Sector 53 in Noida have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, complaining about the waterlogging. More than half of the sector in B-block and the entire road in C-Block are submerged, and the water level in front of the homes can reach one foot.

Anil Kumar Singh, President of RWA, Sector 53 says, "We have been writing letters to the Authority demanding proper water drainage, but it appears that the Authority is unwilling to assist."

Residents also claim that the same problem occurs every year and that officials show up, take pictures, then don't do anything about it.
