Dwarka: Road near Dwarka sector 8 metro station in bad condition

The main road that leads from sector 8 metro station, Dwarka to Shahbad Village has been in bad shape for quite a while now. With rains in the last month, things have gone from bad to worse. It is an important road for people traveling from Dwarka Sector 8 metro station, Palam, and Raj Nagar to Shahabad Mohammad Pur and Gurgram as this road is a shortcut for people who commute daily to Gurugram.

Here potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces create everyday problems for commuters. As gathered, the problem has existed for a couple of years now. The recent rain showers created more damage to the surface of the road and created more potholes and broken patches throughout the stretch. The damaged road has thus made commuting risky for daily commuters and locals of the area. It is especially a matter of concern, as this is one of the busiest roads of Dwarka.

As informed by the locals, the Delhi Development Authority, which is responsible for the maintenance of the road has not even engaged in temporary repair while the road needs a complete resurfacing.

Praveen Saini, 42, an E-rickshaw driver, and resident of Bagdola village, says, “This road has been in this poor condition for a long time now. The authority concerned has not taken any remedial action on the matter so far. A few days back when it rained heavily, it led to more damage. The road also saw heavy waterlogging. I could not see the patches as there are so many on the road, my rickshaw was stuck and the main wire of my rickshaw broke.”

Megha Das, 28, a resident of Uttam Nagar, a daily commuter says, “My workplace is in Gurugram and I commute through this road daily. For the last 3 years till now I did not see any repairing work. It is necessary to repair the road soon, so that, people travel safely. If the rain intensifies in the near future a road like this can lead to accidents because people are unable to see the potholes in waterlogging.”

Sudhir Lamba, 35, a resident of Shahbad Mohammad Pur, says, “The problem has persisted for many years now. During the peak hours, the chances of accidents and mishappenings increase as everyone is in hurry to reach the office and the road sees thick traffic. A few days back my bike slipped because my leg landed in a pothole but luckily I managed to balance myself. Another thing that saved me was the fact that my bike’s speed was also slow."

CitySpidey has taken photographs of this damaged road to make the authorities aware of the ground reality. These pictures have been taken on January 30, 2022, after a recent spate of rains.
