Multan Kachori, a hidden gem from Tilak Nagar market

Tilak Nagar market is an end-all market for everything in West Delhi. The shop abounds in various options in footwear, fashion and essentials. Moreover, with a delightful variety of Delhi's popular street food such as chaat and momos, the market also caters to foodies. While you may have tasted these, there is a reason for you to explore Multani moth kachori tucked inside the market.

The taste of crunchy and mouth-watering moth kachori has travelled to India from Pakistan (Multan) and has long won the hearts of customers. The shop opens early in the morning when owner Arjun Das comes. He prepares kachoris, the batter, masalas, boiled rice and other ingredients. Everything in the stall is freshly made every day. Thereafter, the prepared mixture is fried to a sizzling crunchy finish. The bigger plate is available at Rs 30 and the smaller one for 20. The rich taste and the minimal price bring several visitors to this place.

Arjun Das has been serving moth kachori for the past 40 years at the same place. The business started in 1982 and is still alive on the streets of Tilak Nagar market. The stall owner Mr Arjun Das tells us before he took over the work, his elder brother used to serve and take care of everything.

Although the small area does not allow visitors to sit, it does not impede Arjun's sales. At most times, a dozen of foodies can be seen getting their kachori packed. Arjun Das has two sons; one is a serviceman, and the second helps him on the stall. He also has two workers to run the stall.

When asked about his customer base, he says, "The sales were affected during Covid-19 but now they are better than ever. Many people have been coming for the last 30-40 years. They even bring their grandchildren and say that our taste has not changed at all."
