Residents of 7X societies concerned over high TDS levels in water supply

More than 500 residents of societies in 7X sectors have been facing problems from poor quality water for the past month. Residents allege that poor quality water provided by Noida Authority is affecting their health. They demand immediate attention from the Noida Authority Jal board.

Some of the affected housing societies are Elite Homes, Civitech, Silicon City, Prateek Wisteria, Apex Athena, Mahagun Moderne, Maxbliss, hyde park, Aditya Celebrity Homes, and Urban CASA.

Residents allege that Noida Authority is supplying water with hardness above 600 and TDS above 2000. This has started to affect their health. Skin is getting pale or dark and the hair is turning white. As per residents, even the RO systems are not able to bring the high TDS levels of water down. They claim that presently more than 500 residents are suffering from stomach infections. This could turn into jaundice and turn into a pandemic.

Residents allege that the Noida authority has not taken any action despite regular complaints. They demand the CMO of Noida Authority conduct a survey in every society on water quality.

Puneet Sharma, President, of Aditya Celebrity Homes, sector 76 says, “The so-called Ganga water supply is unfit for usage. The TDS levels are beyond 2000 levels and the supply is short. There are rising cases of Jaundice, stomach infections, skin rashes and irritation in societies."

He adds, "Residents are demanding that CMO takes a sample from all societies and assess the water quality. Short supply is evident every monsoon but this time the poor quality is a major concern for us."

Ankur Mehta, Secretary, of Silicone city, Sector 76 says, “100 residents are protesting regarding the water problem. The TDS is above 2000. Authority is not hearing our problems. We do not know what to do?"

Not only is the water supply of poor quality, but also short in supply. Anand Upadhyay, President, of JM Orchid, Sector 76 says, “We are facing many problems. The pipeline which delivers the Ganga water supply keeps blasting which affects the proper supply. The pressure is low, due to which our society's tanks never fill up. Water stops running into our taps in the middle of the day. Boring is not allowed in our society. Noida Authority is answerable for this. The TDS lever is never lower than 1500 and often rises to 2000.”

He continues, “Whenever we complain to the Noida Authority, we get a reply that there are no issues in the water supply. No officials have visited the society to look into the matter. Residents are suffering from premature white hair, rashes and fever."

Given the short supply of water, residents are forced to arrange additional tanks from private suppliers. As per residents, each tank costs Rs 1500. At a time, 50 tanks are needed to meet the supply which is a great financial burden.

CitySpidey contacted OSD Avinash Tripathi, Noida Authority. Recently, Avinash Tripathi visited the silicone society along with the other officials from Noida Authority. They had a word with the residents who were angry with the water issues. He says, "The pipeline of Gangajal water was broken and has been repaired. There can be low pressure but we are not stopping any supply and giving in abundance. We are looking into the problems of high TDS and short water supply."
