Dwarka: On the occasion of ‘Sewa Diwas’, which is being celebrated to mark 72nd Birthday of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the Lt. Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena today laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Multi Sports Arena at Dwarka Sector 19B. MP, Parvesh Sahib Singh and Vice Chairman DDA were also present on the occasion.
The project is spread over 51 acres and is being taken up by Omaxe through Public Private Partnership on design, finance, operate and transfer model with a concession period of 30 years. The area of the sports facility is 6.4 lakh sq ft and the total estimated project cost is Rs.350 crore with the completion time of 3 years.
Besides this, 3.45 Lakh sq.ft. of commercial facilities, including retail, hotel, hospitality, commercial office space and supporting facilities for sports will be provided for 99 years lease on design, finance, operate and transfer model.
Speaking on the occasion, the LG said that once complete the facility once completed will provide world class sports infrastructure, with International Cricket cum Football Stadium having a seating capacity of 30000. In addition , there will be indoor multi-sports facilities with a seating capacity of 2000, sports club with minimum 3000 membership, other facilities for sports such as swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis. The facilities will also be available to the local community on pay and play basis. This project will, apart from changing the face of Dwarka sub-city, also promote sporting events in the Capital, LG said.
DDA has been at the forefront in developing sports infrastructure in Delhi. At present, DDA has 15 sports complexes, 3 mini sports complexes, 2 public golf courses, 17 swimming pools and 40 multigyms. India’s first public golf course Qutab Golf Course is also run by DDA.
The DDA is also developing Centres in many sports like wrestling, weight lifting, boxing, judo, kabaddi, tennis, shooting, football, and hockey in various sectors of Dwarka and a centre in aquatics at Sector 33, Rohini. A public golf course is being developed at Sector 24 Dwarka. All these sports facilities will contribute to the physical well being of the people of Delhi.
