Ghaziabad: Keeping ferocious breeds such as Pitbull and Rottweiler banned

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, on October 15, 2022, approved a proposal to ban the breeding of three aggressive breeds of dogs including Pitbull and Rottweiler in Ghaziabad. Along with this, some rules have also been set up for all those who have a dog pet in the city. This comes after several incidents of attacks by the pet dogs came into light.

According to the information gathered, a ban has also been imposed on the breeding of dogs of breeds such as Pitbull and Rottweiler in Ghaziabad. At the same time, those who already have dogs of these breeds will have to get them sterilized within 2 months and get them registered with the corporation. If anyone doesn't register their dogs with the authorities, a fine of rupees 5,000 will be imposed on them.

To understand how the residents of Ghaziabad feel about these new guidelines, we talked to Alok Kumar, President of Federation of AOA, Ghaziabad. Alok Kumar says, "The efforts by the authorities are appreciable, however, there's a need to implement these guidelines as well. Everything depends on how well everyone abides by these new rules."

He also says that these new rules focus on pet dogs, however, stray dogs still remain to be the major issue in the city. "Most of the dog bite cases include stray dogs. Now that rules have been set for the pet dogs, it's high time that something is done about the stray dogs as well," says he.

The pet-owners on Ghaziabad have to abide by following guidelines from now on-

  • Pet-owners need to register all pet dogs and get a license for them, which will be issued by November 1, 2022
  • Only two dogs should be registered in a flat.
  • The dog owner will be solely responsible for cleaning up the mess made by pet dogs. Apart from this, the responsibility of taking care of stray dogs will be of the RWA.
  • No person shall feed dogs in front of anyone's house.
  • The animal lovers and the RWA, in coordination with each other, fix the designated place for feeding the stray dogs.
  • While taking dogs in public places like parks and elevators, it will be mandatory to apply mud over their mouths, but in the hot season where people are less, they can remove the mud.
  • The registration and breeding of aggressive dogs like Pitbull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino are banned by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation.
  • Apart from this, those people who have kept such dogs, they will be given registration on the condition that they get their dog sterilized (sterilization) compulsorily within the next 2 months. Those dogs will not be registered after this stipulated time period.
  • If the mentioned aggressive dog is less than 6 months of age, then the owner of the dog will have to give an undertaking to the corporation that on completion of 6 months of age, the dog will be neutered and the information will be provided to the corporation within 10 days.

It is worth noting that in the recent few months, incidents of dog bites by people have come to the fore in many societies in Ghaziabad, in view of which there was a demand to stop them.
