Dwarka couple educates underprivileged children for passion

In a time where everything comes at a cost, an elderly couple is sharing the wealth of education. This National Education Day, meet Ravi and Rajni Behl whose simple efforts have positively influenced the lives of several underprivileged children from the construction site of Dwarka sector 22.

With children living away and free time on their hands, taking up the cause of the underprivileged children is a passion and a source of happiness for them. Ravi Behl, 67, a resident of Garden Estate, sector 22 who retired from the post of DGM of Oriental Bank of Commerce in 2015 shares how the couple started this journey. He says, "It was Diwali 2013. We had gone to distribute sweets to the kids at the construction site near our home. We felt very happy in the company of these kids. Thereafter, we started going there monthly to these construction sites to meet children of labour workers. We slowly formed a bond with them and decided to educate them."

As the couple believes that bookish knowledge is not everything, they taught the children about hygiene and dressing up. "As the children started coming to the class, we saw behavioural changes in them. They started fighting less and developed a positive attitude. We don't want to feed the kids by giving them some money but we want them to learn fishing to get their food by providing education," says Rajni Behl.

The couple has contributed to the overall development of more than 40 underprivileged children from sector 22.
