One of our country's finest vocalists and composers, Shankar Mahadevan is a member of the renowned Indian music band Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and is known for his Indipop songs. He has created two solo records and written the music for more than 80 movies. He also provided the playback for the track Arabian Nights in the 1992 animated movie Aladdin's Hindi adaptation. This year, the brilliant singer turns 56. We have compiled a list of five of his most well-known songs in honour of his birthday.

Hindustani (1998)

The nationalistic song "Hindustani" from the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy album "Dus - A Tribute to Mukul Anand" features the lyrics "Suno gaur se duniya walo" that are popular among Indian music fans. The album includes songs from Mukul Anand's incomplete movie "Dus" and features Shankar Mahadevan, Udit Narayan, Mahalakshmi Iyer, and Dominique Cerejo.

Breathless (1998)

"Breathless," Shankar Mahadevan's debut solo album, features the title track that sounds like it is played continuously. The song quickly rose to the top of the charts after its debut. Javed Akhtar wrote the lyrics, and Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar directed the video.

Ghanan Ghanan (2001)

This song from the movie Lagaan won a National Award and was penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by A.R. Rahman. At its release, Lagaan had the highest album sales and is considered one of the finest albums ever made worldwide.
