Uproar against fee hikes in schools in Gurgaon has gained momentum and about 5,000 parents are set to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, on April 9. They will also hand over a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister and the chief ministers of Delhi and Haryana.

The All India Parents Forum for Education, a local forum of parents in Gurgaon, called a meeting on March 30 at Shama Tourist Complex, Jharsa Road, Gurgaon, to chalk out an action plan against exploitation by private schools.

Parents are also set to stage a protest outside D Suresh’s office, the divisional commissioner, on April 2.

Tejinder Singh, legal head of the forum, said, “There is no education policy in Haryana and we have met all the senior officials and even the Chief Minister, but to avail.”

Parents demanded that the schools share details of their expenses and that a regulatory body keep a watch on fee hikes. “We have been leaving our work to protest against unregulated fee hikes but nobody has resolved our issues. The schools operate in a commercial manner and have business establishments inside the campus, which provide them with good revenues,” said Raj Kumar Yadav, a parent.

Bhupinder Singh, general secretary of the forum, said, “None of the schools display Form 6 on the notice board or the fee structure, which is mandatory.”

Parents also want that there should be no fee hike for the academic year 2017-18 and the next three years.
