There is a corroded construction crane on top of the Supertech twin towers in Sector 93 A, Noida, the free end of which hangs over the society.
After the collapse of a static tower crane in Pune that claimed two lives early this year, residents of ATS Greens Village, a residential complex in Sector 93A, Noida, have been living in fear of a similar incident happening in their society as well.
Nikhat Tagi, a resident, said, “There is a construction crane on top of the Supertech twin towers in Sector 93 A. The free end, or the jib, of the crane hangs over the society. This should be dismantled immediately.”
She said it residents were vulnerable, as the jib hung over parking lots anf the common pathway of the society. “I cannot imagine the kind of damage and loss of lives it can incur if it breaks off and falls on us,” she said, adding that the situation was especially precarious as there was no maintenance of the crane and it was badly corroded.
Residents said they had brought it to the builder’s notice many times through formal mails as far back as April 2016 but nothing had been done.
On contacting the disaster management cell of Gautam Budh Nagar, it said in case of a collapse, the situation would indeed be pretty bad. An officer, on condition of anonymity, said that he would bring the issue to the notice of Noida Authority officials and ask them to take cognisance of the matter before any untoward incident occurred.
