After an arduous wait of nine months, work will start on the remaining portion of the underpass. NHAI promises May-end as deadline.
After an arduous wait of nine months, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will complete the construction of the remaining portion of the L-shaped underpass on MG Road by the end of May.
A petrol pump is located at present is located at the site at present, however, it will be relocated within the next 10 days. The relocation will free up space for construction of the underpass.
The fuel station is about 100 m from the ABW Tower, on the left of MG Road.
The owner of Karan Filling Station, who requested anonymity, said, “Work on dismantling the fuel station will begin from Tuesday. We are relocating to a site in Sector 42 on Golf Course Road.”
HUDA has started the process of transfer of the land to NHAI. The land transfer was stuck, as a court had issued stay on the plot in Sector 42. The stay was vacated on April 12, after which the HUDA officials demolished a boundary wall constructed on the plot.
If one is heading towards the MG Road, the entry to the underpass is nearly 200m from Iffco Chowk Metro station. The exit, on MG Road, is nearly 100m from the petrol pump.
The underpass would be used by commuters heading from HUDA City Centre to Sikanderpur and Delhi via MG Road. It would help commuters bypass the traffic of Iffco Chowk, and save 20-30 minutes in the crossing of MG Road.
NHAI project director AK Sharma said, “We need at least a month’s time to complete construction of the remaining portion of the underpass. We will get the underpass ready by the end of May if we get possession of the land in question at the earliest.”
