Residents of various sectors and societies in Dwarka conducted a cleanliness drive today at Shyam Vatika park. The Park is located near Harsukh and Kamal Vihar societies in Sector 7 of the residential neighbourhood.

The drive was organised by volunteers of local community groups like Green Circle, Seniors Hub Dwarka with help from the Morning Walkers Club. Volunteers who had participated in the drive cleaned the park and staffs of local municipal body South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) helped residents dispose of plastic bags full of garbage which they had collected during the drive.

Ravi Jaitely from Morning Walkers Club (also a resident of Harsukh Apartments) said, “Volunteers gather at Shyam Vatika Park on every second Saturday to carry out ‘shramdaan’(volunteering) to spread awareness, make the area plastic-free and keep surroundings clean and green. Volunteers visiting from various sectors of Dwarka including the Palam village were surprised by the level of awareness amongst morning-walkers and users of the park.”

Post the drive, some of the volunteers visited the three water bodies of Sector 7 and drew a plan for reviving them. Anil Nayal a resident of Sector 7 and member of Dwarka Forum who was among the volunteers visiting the water bodies said, “We found that collective effort is a must for saving the water bodies. We have planned for it and will take up initiatives soon.”
