Noida Authority's team on Wednesday seized a large quantity of plastic bags and storage containers from Maayas Sweets in Sector 50 market. The team has imposed a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh for violating the directions on the single-use plastic.
The officials visited Maayas Sweets on Wednesday morning and seized single-use plastic from its premises.
Noida Authority has been carrying out anti-plastic inspections to check plastic consumption in the city.
They are also running a campaign on the single-use plastic ban to create awareness and have asked vendors, residents, and others to not use single-use plastic and reduce carbon footprint.
When CitySpidey spoke to Prashant, the general manager of Maayas Sweets, he said, “I acknowledge the authority's initiative and will also pay the fine.”
He said that though the ban is a good initiative but there are very few alternatives available in the market.
“We were using wooden/bamboo containers also and have ordered for more but our dealer is yet to supply it,” Prashant said.
A man who didn't wish to be named said, “Everyone is using plastic in Noida. Even shops, around Sector 50, are using plastic. It seems that this sweet shop was handpicked for the inspection.”
As per the official statement from Noida authority, the team also seized single-use plastic from the godown of Gem International in Sector 6 and also sealed it.
