To conserve potable water for ample usage, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has decided to use treated water from the sewage treatment plants (STP) to irrigate green belts in trans-Hindon area.

The authority will use pipelines to carry the water from STPs to the green belts. The construction of laying down the pipes has started.

Executive Engineer AK Chaudhary said that the pipes will carry water to Indirapuram, Vaishali and Vasundhara.

“It is imperative to conserve green belts in times of such high level of pollution. We have started the digging and soon pipes will be laid to carry treated water from STP to the greenbelts. It will also help in controlling the depleting level of groundwater. The treated water from STP is safe to use in green belts,” he said.

Currently, the green belts are watered from ground water carried in water tanks.

“Piped water will be supplies for regular irrigation and will revive those plants which are getting dead due to lack of proper watering. Healthy green belts will also help in reducing pollution levels,” Chaudhary added.

Chaudhary also said that in coming days, the pipes will be extended to water public parks as well.
