Several homebuyers of Ram Shanti Apartments, a residential project in Sector 52, Gurgaon, heaved a sigh of relief after the police filed an FIR against four officials of the developer.

The police registered a case of forgery against them over allegations that the society management took permission for only 98 flats but constructed 194. Homebuyers alleged that the officials committed a fraud of Rs 40 crore. Also, the builder had promised to finish the project in 2011 but is nowhere close to completing it.

According to the police, they registered an FIR against Ramada Group director Mangal Sen, along with three others, namely Anil Sharma, Arun Sharma and Gajendra Yadav.

PL Saini, one of the homebuyers, said, “I bought a flat in the society many years ago and gave all my hard-earned money to the developer. But they failed to complete the project in time. We went to the police but that didn't help. During a grievance meeting, the chief minister heard our complaints and assured us of appropriate action. I am thankful to him. I demand the government to compel the developer to return our money with interest.”

Amit Mati, another complainant, said that stringent action should be taken against such cheaters. “The money I invested in the project was my life’s earnings. We ran from pillar to post with our complaints, but no one heard us out. Only when we raised the issue with the CM did he order an inquiry into the matter. This is just the first step. Only time will tell when our money will be returned.”

When City Spidey spoke to Manish Sehgal, Gurgaon police spokesperson, he said, “We have registered a case against the accused under IPC 420. This is not the first case against a society management. Several other such cases are also pending. An investigation is under way. We will try to solve the case as soon as possible.”
