A marathon was organised on Sunday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand. The theme of the marathon was “Run for Youth, Youth for Nation”.

Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, flagged off the marathon from Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 38.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri, Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil, Gurugram Mayor Madhu Azad, GMCBL Chief Executive Sonal Goel, SDM Jitendra Kumar, City Magistrate Manisha Sharm District Education Officer Indu Bokan BJP leader Manish Yadav, Haryana State Staff Selection Commission Member Professor Hansraj Yadav, Councilor Ashwini Sharma were among those present on the occasion.

More than 10,000 youth from Gurugram participated in the race to mark the National Youth Day.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Rao Inderjit Singh, pointed out that the marathon race coincided with the National Youth Day in commemoration of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti. "It is the government's endeavor to make India a sporting nation in the next 10 years. The race has its own importance in it,” he said.

Drawing attention of the audience towards smaller countries, which were nowhere in the picture, five years ago, making it big in the games winning as many as 32 medals in the Olympics, he said India too is trying to become a sporting nation in the next 10 years by orienting youth towards sports.

Children of RBSM Public School, Gurugram showcased their skills in yoga at an event supported by Patanjali Yoga Committee.
