Delhi: A major fire broke out at JJ colony in Rohini Sector 16 on Saturday evening which left around 1,000 people homeless even as 13 fire tenders rushed to the spot to douuse the flames..

Some people suffered burns while trying to save their belongings. The firemen would conduct a search operation when the area cools down to see if anyone is trapped inside. 

The incident took place at 7 pm on Saturday when the fire broke out at one of the shanties of Bengali Colony and spread rapidly. The shanties were mostly made up of wood and plastic due to which the fire spread. The slums were scattered in an area of 1,500 sq yard. 

According to the residents, the fire spread with exploding of cooking gas cylinders in other shanties. The residents have also claimed that some children who were sleeping were missing. However, the police has said that no one with complain of their child has approached them. 

The Delhi Jal Board has provided water tankers and other toilet facilities. A case under Section 436 of IPC (mischief by fire or explosive substance) has been registered.
